Myakka River State Park

In June, we took Rosie on a weekend adventure to Myakka River State Park, located near Sarasota, FL. I find some irony in the fact that Andrew and I have travel around most of the Japan’s Prefectures (similar to States in the US), 5 of 7 continents, and across the US, but haven’t traveled much within our home state of Florida.  Myakka has been high on our must see Florida list.  It has many of the quintessential wild Florida elements, like overgrowth of palm trees and live oaks with layers of spanish moss, ducks, cranes & egrets around every turn, and waterways filled with alligators.  Even our campground, Palmetto Ridge, displays signs warning of gators at your site.

We have a delightful weekend of visiting with our Sarasota family, especially our nephew Blaze, and immersing ourselves into Florida’s natural elements, including one tooth-grinning reptile.
